Abstract: Objective To observe the therapeutic effects of moxibustion at Baihui (GV20), Yongquan (K11)
and Sanynjiao (SP6) on insonmia patients with hepatitis B related liver cirrhosis. Methods Total of 42
insomnia patients with hepatitis B related liver cirrhosis from September 2014 to January 2015 in the Second
People’s Hosiptal of Tianjin were selected and randomly divided into treatment group and control group.
Moxibustion at Baihui (GV20), Yongquan (K11), and Sanyinjiao(SP6) were applied in treatment group, while
congitive behavior therapy was used in the control group. It was designed 1 week as 1 course .The results
were obtained 4 courses later. Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), albumin (ALB), total bilirubin (TBil)
and Child-Pugh scores were collected. Results The total effective rate in treatment group and control group
were 91.0% and 76.0%, respectively, the difference was statistically significant (Z = -2.12, P = 0.0). After
treatment, PSQI score improved in both groups and the difference was statistically significant (t = -3.69, P =
0.00). Compared with control group, ALB and TBil in treatment group improved significantly, but the Child-
Pugh score had no significant improvement (t = 1.45, P = 0.06). Conclusions Moxibustion at Baihui (GV20),
Yongquan (K11) and Sanyinjiao(SP6) can improve immune function and liver function, and the efficacy was
higher than congitive behavior therapy in treating insonmia patients with hepatitis B related liver cirrhosis.
The possible mechanism could be that the enhanced immune function could improve the sleep quality.
