Objective To observe the effect of adefovir dipivoxil (ADV) on chronic hepatitis B patients with initial treatment. Methods All of 18 cases with chronic hepatitis B were taken as the treantment group, who were treated by adefovir dipivoxil at 10 ㎎ orally once a day for a month after the regularly comprehensive therapy. The control group with 11 hospitalized patients at the same time were treated with matrine sodium chloride at 0.6 g intravenous injection once a day for a month. Results The rate of HBV DNA < 10³ copies/ml,alanine aminotransferase normalization and HBeAg seroconversion were 94.4%, 88.9% and 28.6% in the experimental group, respectively, while in control group the corresponding rate were 9.1%, 72.7% and 14.3%,P < 0.05. Conclusions The clinical effect of adefovir dipivoxil on chronic hepatitis B patients with initial treatment was significant.
